Jonathan Bangs, as Eusibio
Jonathan Bangs is an American actor and musician. The youngest in a family comprised of four he has always been the entertainer of the bunch. Jonathan first stepped onto the stage at the tender age of six years old and has been in love with the craft ever since. Approaching his final year at CalArts he is forever grateful and indebted to the institute.
Cynthia Callejas, as Alicia/Sandra
Cynthia Callejas, a CalArts acting alum, is proud to be making her debut with the CalArts Center for New Performance. Her favorite credits include Rosalind in As You Like It at the Bali Arts Festival in Denpasar, Indonesia, and Miranda in The Tempest at the Walt Disney Modular Theater. She also recently played Lily in The Pitch Sense for the Inner City Filmmakers 48-hr film festival.
Emilio Garcia-Sanchez, as Poncho
Emilio Garcia-Sanchez is part of CalArt’s Graduating Class of 2016. His past productions include The Glass Menagerie directed by Deborah Levine and James Franco (CalArts), Leakages and Anticoagulants directed by Rachel Park (CalArts), and West Side Story directed by Daren AC Carollo (Contra Costa Theater). Shelter is the most important story Emilio has been blessed to be a part of since its genesis. A grandes males, grandes remedios.
Jazmen-Bleu Gutierrez, as Jasmin
Jazmen-Bleu Gutierrez is a BFA 4 actress at CalArts. She was part of the workshop of Shelter and feels very honored to be a part of the performance and see how the piece has evolved. Being a part of Shelter has allowed her to be a voice for those that may not have one and she is excited to see how the journey continues.
Peter Mark, as Julian
Peter Mark a Brazilian/American who has been acting since a young age thanks to the support of hi parents and mentors. In Brazil, Peter has been involved in social work dedicated towards the arts, working with teenagers from favelas, inspiring them to cultivate and find a platform for their talents. It is a pleasure for Peter to be a part of this unique and relevant process, Shelter.
Moriah Martel, as Maria
Moriah Martel has performed and studied in New York with Classic Stage Company and Sarah Lawrence College, in Lennox, Massachusetts with Shakespeare and Company, and in Chicago with Second City. At CalArts she has appeared in Becket’s Honour with Drive Theatre Company, Cherry Chapstick in the 2014 New Works Festival and CalArts’ Film School 2015 production of The Glass Menagerie. She is very grateful to be a part of Shelter and for the opportunity to tell these stories.
Andres Velez, as Ernesto
Andres Velez is currently obtaining a BFA student at the California Institute of the Arts. His favorite performances are R.P. McMurphy in a production of One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Usnavi in In the Heights and Hal in Proof. He has worked on material ranging from Shakespeare to Ionesco to Sam Shepard. His TV and film credits include a Disney Pilot and a guest spot on TNT’s Southland.
Julien Moore, Understudy for Eusebio
Julien Theo Moore is a third year actor at California institute of the Arts and he is elated to be apart of the CalArts Center for New Performance’s production of Shelter. Julien was born in the suburbs of Chicago and has been doing theater since middle school. He is thrilled to be collaborating with such a talented cast of actors on such an immensely relevant production.
Audrey Olmos, Understudy for Maria/Jasmin/Alicia
Audrey Olmos is an Mexican-American actor in her 3rd year at CalArts. Her previous work at CalArts include: The Lorca Project and The Government Inspector. She is very thankful to be apart of Shelter and to work with such an amazing team to tell these stories.
Julian Sandoval, Understudy for Poncho/Ernesto/Julian
Julian Sandoval is currently in his third year of training at CalArts for a BFA in acting. He was last seen working with director Stan Li in developing a new play for CalArts CNP. Past favorite roles include: Piano Man in The Backdoor directed by Daniel Passer. Hortensio in The Taming of the Shrew and Francis Flute in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, both produced by The Sacramento Shakespeare Festival. He’s thankful for the opportunity to work on Shelter, a piece that is close to his family’s narrative.
Jocelyn Dimaya, Costume Design
Jocelyn Dimaya is a BFA Costume Designer at CalArts. She has worked with directors Rafael Lopez-Barrantes, Nataki Garret, and BJ Dodge. In Spring 2015, she designed UAC ETA TBD, written by Nancy De Los Santos, directed by BJ Dodge, performed at Plaza de la Raza and REDCAT. Currently Jocelyn is collaborating on a transnational group art show, “El Acercamiento”, which will be on display in La Habana, Cuba in April 2016 and at the Boat House Gallery at Plaza de la Raza in May 2016.
Jesse Fryery, Lighting Design
Jesse Fryery is transplant from the East Coast, currently pursuing his Masters in Lighting Design from CalArts. He received his BFA from the University of Florida in Lighting Design. Jesse’s experiences include being Master Electrician for Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville, FL, and at the Hippodrome State Theatre, in Gainesville, FL. Jesse has an extensive lighting experience, and can be found behind the board during theatre productions, live events, dance shows, and musicals.

Having worked for a number of years in the Boston and NYC theatre scene, Sam is thrilled to be a part of this LA based project and to further these stories in the collective consciousness.
