Genevieve Fowler, Director | 연출 Genevieve Fowler
Genevieve Fowler is a LA and Chicago based theater director whose commitment to new plays and radically reimagined classics acts to weave together memories of the past, present, and future to create liminal spaces in which our current reality is questioned and sanguine futures are dreamed on. Genevieve’s practice revolves around the dual tracks of radically inclusive, community based work and socially minded critiques of classics for a contemporary audience. Her latest collaboration, here comes the tide/there goes the girl, premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where she will be returning with the new play, You Owe Me Your Bones. She has worked in various capacities with The Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Lookingglass Theater, Steppenwolf’s 1700 Theater, Chicago Dramatists,The Special Olympics of Illinois, the senior citizen musical theater troupe Still Acting Up, and is a proud company member of Collaboraction Theater Company. Genevieve was privileged to be a part of both the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 ArtChangeUS Fellow Cohorts, working as the Producing and Research Fellow. Genevieve is currently pursuing an MFA in Directing from the CalArts School of Theater, and holds a BA from Vassar College.
미국 LA와 시카고를 기반으로 활동하고 있는 연출가 Genevieve Fowler는 고전작품의 재구성과 새로운 연극의 창작을 통해 과거와 현재, 미래의 기억을 한데 결합하여 현실에 의문을 제기함과 동시에 낙관적인 미래가 꿈틀대는 경계 공간을 창조한다. Genevieve Fowler의 작품세계는 철저히 지역사회에 기반을 두거나, 현대의 관객들을 위해 고전작품을 사회적으로 비평하는 크게 두 가지 경로를 중심으로 구성된다. 그의 최근 작품 <여기 파도가 밀려오고/저기 그녀가 간다>(here comes the tide/there goes the girl)는 에든버러 프린지 페스티벌에서 초연되었으며, 신작 <나에게 빚진 너의 뼈>(You Owe Me Your Bones) 역시 같은 축제에서 공연될 예정이다. 그는 The Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Lookingglass Theater, Steppenwolf’s 1700 Theater, Chicago Dramatists, The Special Olympics of Illinois, the senior citizen musical theater troupe Still Acting Up 등 다양한 기관 및 단체와 협업한 바 있으며, 현재 Collaboraction Theater Company의 회원이다. 전도유망한 연출가로서 2018-2019년과 2019-2020년 양 차례에 걸쳐 ArtChangeUS Fellow Cohorts로 선정되어 프로듀싱 및 리서치 펠로우로 활동하기도 했다. 바사 칼리지(Vassar College)에서 학사 학위를 받았고, 현재 CalArts School of Theater (칼아츠 연극원) 석사과정에 재학 중이다.
Jeonghyeon Joo, Composer | 작곡 주정현
Jeonghyeon Joo is a haegeum performer, composer, improviser, and researcher who is an ardent advocate for new and experimental music. Joo draws a narrative through an exploration of a somatic, corporeal relationship between her instrument and body. In her works, musical notation is usually a mix of Jeongganbo, text instructions, graphics, and traditional western notation which leads to dynamic interpretations depending on a performer. Recently, her projects have been supported by Arts Council Korea, Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and Seoul National University. In recent years, she has given the world premieres of a number of new works for the haegeum, composed by living composers from various backgrounds in performances throughout the world as a soloist and as a founding member of Ensemble PHASE. She frequently leads workshops and gives lectures at notable conferences and institutions such as the International Computer Music Conference, Korean Music Educators Society Annual Conference, Seoul National University, San Francisco State University, University of California – Riverside, San Diego State University, and Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles. She also has served as a lecturer at the Seoul Institute of the Arts and Gugak National High School. Joo received a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Music from Seoul National University with a research focus on the development of contemporary études for the haegeum. She is currently pursuing a DMA in Performer-Composer Program at California Institute of the Arts.
주정현은 전통음악과 현대음악 분야에서 활발한 작품 활동을 펼치고 있는 해금연주가이자 작곡가이다. 주정현은 자신의 악기와 신체 사이의 물리적, 사회∙문화적 관계에 주목하는 작업을 해 오고 있으며, 해금 연주가로서 다양한 배경을 가진 작곡가들의 수많은 곡을 초연하였다. 또한 주정현의 음악은 정간보, 텍스트, 그래픽, 오선보 등이 혼합 기보되어 연주자에 따라 다양한 해석이 가능하다. 최근 작품은 한국문화예술위원회, 서울문화재단, 서울특별시, 서울대학교 등의 후원으로 만들어졌고, 2019년에는 한국문화예술위원회 전통예술분야 차세대 예술가로 선정되었다. 그는 서울예술대학교와 국립국악고등학교 강사를 역임하였고, International Computer Music Conference, 한국음악교육학회, 서울대학교, 샌프란시스코주립대학교 (San Francisco State University), 캘리포니아대학교 리버사이드캠퍼스 (University of California – Riverside), 샌디에이고주립대학교 (San Diego State University) 등의 학회 및 학교에서 연주와 특강을 하였다. 서울대학교에서 학사와 석사를 마친 후 현재는 California Institute of the Arts (칼아츠) 박사과정에 재학 중이다.
